Starting something new

Surfing is a large passion of mine. It’s meditative. You loose all sense of time and place when you are waiting for the next set of waves to come through. All that seems to matter is where the wave will break and whether I will be able to get onto it.
Now, let me start by saying I am by no means a seamstress. There were many mistakes made during this creative project, but I enjoyed the process of learning from my mistakes.

3 pieces of fabric

Using three different colours of water resistant material, and a trusty sewing machine, I was able to create a multi layered cover for my SumoFish surfboard - a short but stocky board.

I sewed in an additional layer of foam to ensure that the nose had protection as fibreglass boards are more fragile than foam boards. Using some left over rope, I made a tie at the bottom to enclose the casing to keep the board secure.

Board in a Bag

For my first sewing project since high school, I was pretty happy with the outcome. Just don’t look too closely.
